Global Vibes in LA NUEVA ESPAÑA: A friendship going global: GVO reaches a thousand members (21/06/2026)
LA NUEVA ESPAÑA dedica un artículo a Global Vibes Oviedo, la asociación fundada en 2023 por Chris y Catalina Lipscomb poco después de instalarse en la ciudad, con la idea de acoger e integrar a quienes llegan de fuera. El crecimiento no se ha detenido: de los 700 miembros con los que empezó el año, GVO ha pasado a mil, procedentes de 27 países. Entre ellos hay ocho españoles, que —como cuentan los fundadores con humor— vienen muy bien para practicar el idioma.
El artículo señala como punto de inflexión la colaboración iniciada en febrero con la Cámara de Comercio, orientada a facilitar a los miembros la apertura de negocios en la ciudad. Las concejalías de Cultura y Festejos también han colaborado en distintas actividades.
Desde sus inicios, GVO celebra encuentros mensuales que reúnen a cerca de cien personas, con charlas sobre arte y oficios, clases de español o juegos de mesa. Este año se han visitado el Carlos Tartiere, el Museo de Bellas Artes y el Arqueológico, además de distintos recorridos por la ciudad. Tampoco ha faltado la vida festiva, con celebraciones como el martes de campo.
Fuera de la ciudad, el grupo ha combinado el vermú en un club privado de Trubia con rutas de montaña como la de las Xanas, además de visitas a la feria de Llanera y a la de Indianos en Colombres. Septiembre llega con una agenda completa, en la que destaca la participación en el Día de América en Asturias, para el que los miembros vestirán ropas de los años XX.

LA NUEVA ESPAÑA has published a piece on Global Vibes Oviedo, the association founded in 2023 by Chris and Catalina Lipscomb shortly after they settled in the city, with the aim of welcoming and integrating newcomers from abroad. The group has kept growing: from 700 members at the start of the year to a thousand today, drawn from 27 different countries. Eight of them are Spanish — very handy, as the founders note, for practising the language.
The article points to February as a turning point, when GVO began working with the Chamber of Commerce to help members set up businesses in Oviedo. The city’s Culture and Festivals departments have also collaborated on various activities.
Since the beginning, GVO has held monthly gatherings that bring together around a hundred people, with talks on art and crafts, Spanish classes and board games. This year the group has visited the Carlos Tartiere stadium, the Fine Arts Museum and the Archaeological Museum, as well as taking various walks around the city. Nor has the festive side been neglected, with occasions such as the martes de campo.
Further afield, the group has mixed vermouth at a private club in Trubia with mountain walks such as the Ruta de las Xanas, plus the Llanera fair and the Indianos fair at Colombres. September brings a full calendar, with the Día de América en Asturias standing out: members will be turning up in 1920s dress.
