«Organizarán charlas conjuntas y jornadas de ‘networking’ entre profesionales extranjeros y empresarios locales»
Paso clave para la internacionalización de la capital asturiana. La Cámara de Comercio y la comunidad Global Vibes Oviedo han formalizado una alianza estratégica con el objetivo de crear puentes directos entre el talento extranjero residente en la ciudad y el tejido empresarial y social local. Un acto celebrado en la sede de la entidad cameral durante la mañana de este jueves, que sirvió como marco para la firma del acta de constitución de Global Vibes como asociación, un colectivo que ya agrupa a más de 700 personas de 20 nacionalidades diferentes.
En la mesa, el alcalde, Alfredo Canteli; el vicepresidente de la Cámara, José Manuel Ferreira; los impulsores de la asociación, Chris y Catalina Lipscomb, y personalidades del mundo cultural como la directora del Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias, María Díaz-Fanjul.
Para la Cámara, esta unión no es un mero trámite administrativo, sino una «apuesta estratégica». En palabras de Ferreira, «Oviedo atrae talento, diversidad y nuevas oportunidades». Así, la colaboración se materializará de forma inmediata a través de proyectos conjuntos que incluyen charlas, asesoramientos especializados y encuentros de ‘networking’. La meta es que los profesionales internacionales que eligen la ciudad por motivos laborales, académicos o personales no solo se integren socialmente, sino que aporten su experiencia y capacidad de inversión a los negocios y establecimientos hosteleros de la zona.
Ahora, lo que comenzó como una iniciativa de encuentros sociales mensuales se ha consolidado como un punto de referencia para los extranjeros porque «queremos devolverle a Oviedo todo lo que nos ha dado», explicó en inglés Catalina Lipscomb, socia fundadora de la sociedad. «Queremos integrar nuestras actividades con las locales y que nos ayuden a estudiar español, visitar museos y ser uno más de la ciudad», indicó.
Por su parte el alcalde les expresó que «las puertas del Ayuntamiento estarán abiertas e intentaremos crear un día especial para vosotros una vez al año».

The Chamber of Commerce and the Global Vibes Oviedo community have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at building direct bridges between the foreign talent living in the city and the local business and social fabric. The event, held at the Chamber’s headquarters on Thursday morning, provided the setting for the signing of Global Vibes’ founding charter as an association, a group that already brings together more than 700 people from 20 different nationalities.
At the table were the Mayor, Alfredo Canteli; the Vice-President of the Chamber, José Manuel Ferreira; the association’s founders, Chris and Catalina Lipscomb; and figures from the cultural world such as the director of the Fine Arts Museum of Asturias, María Díaz-Fanjul.
For the Chamber, this union is not a mere administrative formality but a «strategic commitment». In Ferreira’s words, «Oviedo attracts talent, diversity and new opportunities». The collaboration will take shape immediately through joint projects including talks, specialised advice and networking events. The goal is that the international professionals who choose the city for work, academic or personal reasons not only integrate socially, but also bring their experience and investment capacity to the area’s businesses and hospitality venues.
What began as an initiative of monthly social gatherings has now established itself as a point of reference for foreigners, because «we want to give back to Oviedo everything it has given us», explained Catalina Lipscomb, founding member of the association, speaking in English. «We want to combine our activities with local ones, and for people to help us study Spanish, visit museums and become one more part of the city», she said.
The Mayor, for his part, told them that «the doors of the City Council will be open, and we will try to create a special day for you once a year».
